November 11th isn’t just marked in the U.S.
Although paleolithic calendars didn’t have the date precision we have today, ceremonies to remember the efforts of fallen warriors were probably an important technology for ancient societies. Knowing they would be celebrated in death could inspire someone to group-beneficial action when the self-interested thing to do is to stay out of harm’s way.
